Chapter Twelve

The body pressed against him was his for the taking.

The music pounded through the club, the strobe lights highlighting the writhing bodies dancing and groping and more on the floor. It was electric, the beats and the energy of the crowd; every song ramped up his adrenaline, taking him out of his body and out of the dilemma his life had become. He’d wanted an escape, and he’d found it.

Bodies swirled around him, and Victor let the legs and arms and hard groins brush against and grind into him as he lost his mind to the music. He’d deflected roaming hands and lingering looks all night, but the slighter of build, shorter Asian with a sexy smile and muscles to spare had his attention. He was as far from Isaiah as he could get in body type and build. Victor had considered finding a big guy with dark skin and chocolate brown eyes and fucking him until he didn’t give a shit about his husband anymore or he just didn’t give a shit in general. The idea had lost its appeal when every African-American man reminded him of the one he was trying to forget.

He’d left Isaiah and Evan in the truck, still stinging from the accusation that he would do anything that might harm his stepson, and went back into the rehearsal hall, fully intending to put in a few more hours of work and exhaust himself and his anger. But it hadn’t worked, and he’d found himself in the showers, putting on clothes he left in the studio and taking an Uber to a gay dance club he’d gone to several times with Alan. It offered strong drinks, willing men, and anonymity.

Nobody cared who he was when he was here, and nobody cared about the gold band on his left hand.

And why should they when the man who’d put it there didn’t care, either?

Victor grabbed his dance partner’s hips and rubbed their bodies together again, leaning in close enough to feel the sharp exhale of the man’s breath on his skin. The man was beautiful and eager, and Victor was tempted to bend him over a flat surface eventually, but for now he just wanted to lose himself in the oblivion of a heavy beat and a buzz.

As they swayed together the man leaned in and claimed Victor’s mouth in a kiss, his mouth opening as he tried to deepen the kiss with his soft lips and warm tongue. Victor indulged for a few seconds with a groan that he felt down in his marrow. It was exhilarating to be wanted, a sexual balm to his wounded pride and sexual frustration. Jerking off wasn’t cutting it. Yeah, it gave him release and a lingering lethargy that, for a short time, convinced him everything would be okay. That he wouldn’t always want his husband. That it didn’t sting when Isaiah pushed him away. That he didn’t long for it to be different.

But it never lasted for long and he wondered if replacing his hand with a willing body would draw out the aftereffects.
